UL 60065 - SEVENTH EDITION

(Sub) CLAUSE / ANNEX NUMBER:

Clause 4.2.4 c)

(Sub) CLAUSE / ANNEX HEADING:

Normal Operating Conditions

OTHER RELEVANT (Sub) CLAUSES / ANNEXES (as applicable):

Clause 4.2.4 a)

DESCRIPTION OF ISSUE:

What is the normal operating condition for an organ or similar keyboard instrument that contains an amplifier and a tone generator?

APPLICATION GUIDELINE:

After connection of the instrument to its RATED LOAD IMPEDANCE and depressing the 10 manual keys and 2 bass pedals (if used), adjust the output to the point of NON-CLIPPED OUTPUT POWER. Then, reduce output power to 1/8 as described in Clause 4.2.4 a)

RATIONALE:

IEC 60065 does not make it clear that power is to be reduced to 1/8 of the NON-CLIPPED OUTPUT POWER as is done for audio amplifiers. This method was confirmed at an IEC Working Group meeting and through other European test agencies.

OTHER:

None.
