IEC 62368-1 training opportunity close to home
UL is organizing a one-day workshop titled "Part 1 - Safety Requirements, IEC 62368-1" on the new safety standard for Audio/Video, Information Technology and Communication Technology Equipment.
The same workshop will be offered in different states between September 2011 and March 2012. UL's expert trainers will come to where you are, saving participants the difficulty of long distance travelling. The latest workshop will take place in Hartford, CT on September 1, 2011.
The IEC 62368-1 standard, which is primarily performance-based, has evolved as a result of the convergence of technologies and product constructions associated with Audio/Video, Information Technology and Communications Technology Equipment. IEC 62368-1 is not a simple merger of the existing IEC 60065 and IEC 60950-1 and it is worth noting that IEC 62368-1 takes a different hazard based approach to product safety, unlike the current standards.
The new standard will exist along with the current standards during the implementation period and there is a transition period to allow manufacturers and safety engineers to understand the new requirements and apply them properly. To stay ahead of competition and ensure product compliance, it is important for manufacturers, engineers, consultants and managers to gain an early understanding of the new standard.
The workshop will cover:
- Background and development of the standard
- Principles of Hazard Based Safety Engineering (HSBE)
- General safety principles of IEC 62368-1
- Application overview of IEC 62368-1 with respect to potential injuries
- UL's position as it relates to transitioning to IEC 62368-1
