Penang embarks on workshops to promote designs for global markets compliance

Penang Skills Development Centre (PSDC), the longest established industry-led skills training centre and among the best in Malaysia, joins hands with UL for the first time to provide a series of workshops to assist manufacturers to gain competitive edge in preparing their products for the global market place, as part of the PSDC's FasTrack program.  The FasTrack program aims to upskill existing engineers and accelerate the work readiness of fresh graduate engineers.

Targeting the High-Tech manufacturers, UL's first series of workshops will cover the major aspects of market access from product design to hazard mitigation to market access management.  Titled "Designing for Compliance", the workshop series will be offered from April to December 2011 and comprises seven modules.  These modules are:

  • Overviews of components adoption for end-product design,
  • Understanding plastic applications - Preselection of polymeric materials for end-product design,
  • Designing products for EMI/EMC compliance,
  • Transition from IEC 60950 & IEC 60065 to IEC 62368,
  • The CE marking: Strategies for European compliance,
  • Global EMC market access & regulatory requirements,
  • Understanding product regulatory market access requirements for major markets.

Penang, an island located on the northwest coast of Peninsular Malaysia, has the greatest concentration of electrical/electronic manufacturers in Malaysia and houses the likes of Motorola, National Instruments, Venture, AMD, Philips Lumiled, Bosch & Agilent.  PSDC's strong industry connection provides an ideal conduit to reach out to the industry players.
