Underwriters Laboratories Announces Certification Impact Analysis Workshops For IEC 60950-1, Second Edition, Amendment No. 1
Underwriters Laboratories (UL) has released a certification impact analysis for IEC 60950-1, Second Edition, Amendment No. 1. The analysis is intended to identify and analyze the impact of notable differences between the latest versions of the IEC and pending UL Standards for Safety of Information Technology Equipment (ITE) and their predecessors.
IEC 60950-1, which was developed by the International Electrotechnical Commission, is the International Standard for Safety of Information Technology Equipment. Under its scope, it emcompasses information technology equipment, communication technology equipment, office appliances and multi-media equipment for use in the home, office, business, school, computer room and similar locations.
UL’s certification impact analysis will allow those already familiar with the Second Edition of IEC 60950-1 and UL 60950-1 to learn and understand the likely impacts of the new safety standard on information technology equipment. The impact analysis examines both specific component standard requirements and compliance to electrical codes for the U.S. and Canada. In addition, the impact of global products is examined in the Common and Special National Conditions section.
The First Amendment to the Second Edition of IEC 60950-1 was published in December 2009 and the UL standard is expected to be finalized in 2011.
UL University offers web-based workshops that present the results of UL’s Certification Impact Analysis. To register for a workshop, please visit: http://www.uluniversity.us/catalog/display.resource.aspx?resourceid=305638.
